Here’s Shelley…Mixing Memes

I do feel a bit disheveled and bedraggled as I smash down the door into the Fall 2014 semester, 2014-15 school year. I’m probably feeling that way since I was already going Mach 10 last week with various trainings, workshops, orientations, etc. I probably should have rest a bit more this summer–all work and no play make Shelley a dull girl–however, that is what my academic life is like; there is no summer break. For the first time, in a long time, I got one of those blatant “you must be enjoying all your time off this summer” comments from someone I met. Tom graciously dealt with that response as I walked away mumbling.

Ugh…this post started off on a negative rant.

philosoraptorActually, I am very glad to be back in the semester. As a colleague mentioned, we both are more productive when we have more things on our plate. Let me tell you…my plate is full. Besides teaching ENGL665 and ENGL766/866, I’m doing my normal behind the scenes support of projects like ODU Learns, Honors College’s and Department of English’s ePortfolio initiatives as well as working with ODU’s Preparing Future Faculty to pilot an online PFF course. Oh yeah, I’m on the tenure track, I’m writing too–thanks Remica for implementing the Faculty Writing Center and the IMRaD writing workshop so that I write up some collected data!

Needless to say, I probably shouldn’t be spending time writing this blog entry, or participating in the Edublogs Teacher Challenge; however, I want to continue being relatively transparent in what I do, why I do it, and the insanity that ensues! Blogging can help do that. Or maybe I can just work on dethroning Megan Mize as the queen of memes.
